Safety First: How We Ensure Site Safety on Every Project

June 10, 2024By Hilson Projects Team

Building a Culture of Safety Excellence

At Hilson Projects, safety isn't just a policy—it's a core value woven into every aspect of our operations. We believe that every workplace injury is preventable, and we are relentlessly committed to protecting our workers, sub-trades, clients, and the public. A safe site is not only the right thing to do; it's also the foundation of an efficient, high-quality project.

Our Safety Philosophy

Our approach to safety goes beyond simply meeting regulations. It's about creating an environment where every person feels empowered to identify hazards and take corrective action:

  • Zero Tolerance Policy: We have zero tolerance for unsafe behavior. Any worker, regardless of position, who violates safety protocols faces immediate action.
  • Continuous Training: All site personnel undergo mandatory safety training, including fall protection, confined space entry, first aid, and hazard recognition. Training is ongoing, not one-time.
  • Daily Huddles: Each workday begins with a safety meeting where the day's specific hazards are discussed and mitigation strategies are confirmed.
  • Hazard Reporting: We encourage all workers to report hazards and near-misses without fear of reprisal. These reports are reviewed and acted upon immediately.

Key Safety Programs on Hilson Sites

We implement several structured programs to maintain our safety standards:

  1. Site Safety Orientations: Every worker entering our site for the first time completes a site-specific orientation covering emergency procedures, restricted areas, and project-specific hazards.
  2. Regular Inspections: Project managers and superintendents conduct formal weekly safety inspections. Additionally, random spot checks are performed by our safety officer.
  3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): We enforce strict PPE requirements (hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, steel-toed boots) at all times, with no exceptions.
  4. Emergency Preparedness: Clear evacuation plans, designated muster points, and trained first-aiders are standard on every Hilson project.
"Safety is not a destination but a journey. Every day we strive to improve, learn, and protect the people who build our projects."
